- News / ChangelogLINK
- This guide is intended for administrators of XELOS 7.1 systems whose platform is close to the XELOS standard, i.e. does not have extensive customizations. With the help of this manual and the update manager in XELOS PRO 7.1, you can upgrade an existing system to the new XELOS PRO version 8.0.
Are you insecure about upgrading or do you need extended support for the upgrade? Our support team is happy to help. Make an appointment with us to upgrade to XELOS 8.0 and a support representative will explain the process and help you with any questions you may have. The support costs incurred will be offset against your support points account accordingly.
The update manager is not suitable for XELOS PRO systems with versions other than 7.1 or with far-reaching customer adaptations and connections to third-party systems, as it cannot take individualizations into account. To upgrade such a system to XELOS 8.0, please contact your XELOS contact person/project manager, who can advise you on the upgrade and plan an upgrade project with you.
- XELOS PRO 7.1
- XELOS Standard Theme (Customers with Individual Themes please contact the Theme Developer! Old themes are not directly compatible with XELOS 8.0 and need an update)

- mySQL Version >= 5.6
- PHP version = 7.1
XELOS 8.0 End of Life Module
No changes to the modules
The SQL based search is supported for the last time with XELOS 8. As of XELOS 9, only ElasticSearch is offered as a search backend.
Step by step instructions
The following instructions describe the procedure for the officially supported CentOS 7.x distribution. If you are using a different Linux distribution, the steps must be adapted accordingly. The update takes about 1h - during this time the system is not available. If you have a staging system, it is recommended that you first perform the update on this system and test it with your own modules, if necessary, before transferring it to the live system.
Please follow the order of the instructions in any case.
- Create Backup
- Update XELOS 7.1
- Update PHP 7.1
- Upgrade XELOS 8.0

- Further changes in XELOS 8.0
1. create a backup
Before upgrading to version 8.0, you will be prompted to create a system backup if no current backup is available. If you do not see a prompt, we strongly recommend that you create an additional backup before the update to back up any current system changes. Make sure that your server or backup partition has enough space. You can create a backup under Administration > System Backup. Also check that the backup is complete.
2nd update XELOS 7.1
Switch to Administration > System Update and install all available updates. Please also note the updates under the "Files" tab. When all packages are up to date with the latest 7.1 release, you can switch back to the "Upgrade" tab.
3rd update PHP 7.1
Before updating to XELOS 8.0, be sure to run PHP 7.1 on your server. You can check this by choosing the following
Execute command on the console:
Important: Do not update to PHP version 7.1 until after updating XELOS 7.1.8!
4th Upgrade XELOS 8.0
If all requirements are met, you can upgrade to the new XELOS 8.0 version.
Under " Administration > Update and Licenses > Upgrade (Tab)" you can start the update.
The update button appears only if all requirements are met, otherwise red warnings will be visible. If this is the case, check that all requirements have been met and that the sequence of the instructions has been followed.
After you have accepted the EULA and started the update, the update runs automatically until completion.
5. completion / test run
After successful installation, please test your system for functionality - in particular by observing the following points (language, file uploads, etc.). It is also best to monitor the event log under Administration > System Status in order to detect any problems visible to your users at an early stage.
If you have already used Elastic Search on XELOS 7.1, re-indexing is required. This is triggered under "Administration > Overview > System status > Document directory".
In case of problems please contact our support team.
